Matt LaFleur remains patient on star running back Josh Jacobs’ legal issues as the Green Bay Packers finish preparations of the 2026 season.
The Brown County district attorney of Wisconsin charged Jacobs with battery and criminal damage to property, both misdemeanors. Jacobs was originally arrested on May 26 on five counts, including one felony, but formal charges were not filed until Aug. 27. The alleged incident happened at Jacobs’ home near Green Bay on May 23. Jacobs has an initial court appearance Nov. 17.
LaFleur briefly talked about Jacobs as the Packers concluded preseason action on Friday. The head coach remains patient on the legal proceedings but stands firm on Jacobs remaining with the team for the upcoming season.
“I fully anticipate him being a member of our team,” LaFleur said, per ESPN. “You’ve got to let everything play out. But I anticipate him being a member of our football team.”

Jacobs would enter Year 8 of his NFL career, his third with the Packers. Last season saw him record up to 234 carries for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns while making 36 catches for 282 yards and a touchdown.
They will attempt to improve on their 9-7-1 record from the year before. They also intend to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season and end their four-year NFC North title drought.
The Packers’ regular season will get underway on the road. They take on the Minnesota Vikings as kickoff commences on Sept. 13 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
