LaFleur conveyed his trust in Jacobs during a recent press conference, stating, “There were many conversations obviously and certainly don’t know all the details, but what he tells me, I believe him and I trust him. The legal troubles began when Jacobs was arrested on May 26 following an altercation with his girlfriend. According to the Brown County District Attorney’s office, video evidence is available that supports the claims made by Jacobs’ girlfriend regarding the incident. The details of the alleged altercation include claims that Jacobs grabbed his girlfriend's arm during a struggle over a phone, which resulted in her sustaining a head injury.
In light of the charges, Jacobs has been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, which prohibits him from participating in games or practices but allows him to continue receiving his salary.
