Any pressing concerns over Green Bay Packers rookie kicker Trey Smack have been booted into the wind during the first two games of the preseason.
Smack, who made all three of his field goal attempts and had a fourth successful kick negated by penalty in the preseason opener in Pittsburgh last Thursday night, delivered a fitting encore on Friday night in Denver, connecting on all seven of his kicks, including two more field goals over 50 yards.
During the Packers' 33-13 win over the Broncos, Smack hit field goals from 51 yards, 59 yards, 43 yards and 38 yards, and he was 3-for-3 on extra points.
"Feel great, but same thing, he's got to go do it again. That's life in the NFL," coach Matt LaFleur said post-game. "You're only as good as your last performance. He's put two pretty darn good performances back-to-back. The talent is there. He's just got to continue to be consistent."
One week after hitting a 58-yard field goal, Smack connected on a 59-yarder late in the first half on Friday night. It appeared to have the distance for 65 or more yards.
And his accuracy was pinpoint; had the goal posts been placed only a foot or so apart, Smack still would have made most of his kicks against the Broncos. They were hit long and dead center. Even Micah Parsons took notice.
Trey smack!!! Wtf!! 🧀🧀🔥
— Micah Parsons (@MicahhParsons11) August 22, 2026Through two preseason games, Smack is 7-for-7 on field goals, with three field goals over 50 yards and a fourth negated by penalty, and 3-for-3 on extra points.
Could even the most optimistic of Trey Smack supporters have envisioned a more perfect start for the rookie kicker?
Next week brings an opportunity to kick inside Lambeau Field, but Smack has passed the preseason test. He will be the Packers kicker come Week 1. The next big step: making kicks when they count, starting on Sunday, Sept. 13 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
