The PN Fleet Club Open International Squash Championship has seen a remarkable showdown at the RKJK Squash Complex, where both Pakistan and Egypt showcased their dominance by securing all eight quarter-final spots. This event, held on Saturday, highlighted the fierce competition between these two squash powerhouses, setting the stage for an exciting round of matches on Sunday.
Among the standout performances was Noor Zaman, who displayed exceptional form by defeating Brazil's Diego Gobbi in straight games, with scores of 12-10, 11-5, and 11-9. Zaman’s victory not only showcased his skill but also set him up for a thrilling quarter-final clash against fellow Pakistani Mohammad Asim Khan. Khan had a more challenging route to the next round, initially dropping his first game before rallying to win against Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai with a final score of 3-1 (5-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5).
Nasir Iqbal, another seasoned player from Pakistan, continued the trend of strong performances by defeating Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy in straight games, with scores of 11-9, 11-5, and 11-3. Iqbal’s experience proved invaluable as he now prepares to face Hamza Khan, a former world junior champion. On the Egyptian side, Mohamed Nasser made his mark by overcoming Japan's Naoki Hayashi with a score of 3-1 (6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 12-10).
