Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said early this month that he didn't know if quarterback Patrick Mahomes will play at all in the preseason and it looks like the team has settled on keeping him on the bench.
Mahomes did not play in the team's preseason opener and Reid said at a Thursday press conference that Mahomes will not play in Tampa on Saturday. The Chiefs will wrap up the preseason against the Seahawks on August 28.
Assuming he sits that one out as well, Mahomes's first game action since tearing his ACL in Week 15 last season.
Justin Fields will start at quarterback for the Chiefs and Reid said that he plans to play him into the second quarter. Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Oladokun will be the other quarterbacks for Kansas City this weekend.
