Patriots Coach Mike Vrabel Awkwardly Dodges Question About Alleged Affair with Reporter Dianna Russini

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel danced around a question about the counseling he claimed to have sought following the news of his affair with Dianna Russini exploding into public view.

During a Tuesday press conference, Vrabel was asked about the counseling and how he balanced the “personal commitment with getting ready for the season.”

Vrabel gave a word salad response:

Well, I think we always look at improvement as we talk about getting ready for the next season. We always look at improvement, in ways that we can improve individually and, you know, how we can improve as a team.

And it’s really critical that we continue to do that on and off the field. I

believe in that. I believe in everything that we can do to help this football team, to help our coaches, to help myself and everybody else included, and how we– this journey that we’re going to go on is going to be completely different than the one we went on last year.

And that’s all of our jobs, is to prepare for it now. So, really focused on our improvement, individually and as a team, and that’s something that we can do today.

Vrabel then pivoted to talk about his offensive line and working to improve their combination blocks.

The affair was made public in April when Page Six published suspicious photos of the coach and the reporter.

In those photos, Russini — then a reporter for The Athletic — and Vrabel could be seen together at a resort in Arizona. According to witnesses, the two were alone. Both of them claimed they were among a larger group of friends.

Following days of scrutiny, as well as an investigation by The Athletic’s parent company The New York Times, Russini announced her resignation from the outlet. She continued to deny the allegations against her.

In a prepared statement days before the NFL Draft, Vrabel announced he’d seek counseling following “difficult conversations” with his loved ones. Shortly after that announcement, Page Six published another set of older photos showing the coach and reporter kissing at a New York bar.
