New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry has been impressed with quarterback Drake Maye's improved leadership ahead of the 2026 season. When speaking with media members, Henry explained Maye's "big-time" growth in such a short time.
"Just from last year to this year, he's stepping up big-time in the leadership role," Henry said, via Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan.
The Super Bowl LX loss clearly left a bad taste in Maye's mouth, and he is stepping up in a major way to help get the team back to the big game. Playing better is obviously one way to help the team, but the ability to lead on and off the field is equally as important for a franchise quarterback.

— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) August 18, 2026Maye's confidence has grown significantly in Year 3, and it has paid off on the practice field.
It also helps that the team has done a tremendous job of upgrading the talent around the 23-year-old quarterback, including improving on the offensive line and signing standout wide receivers, A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs.
An exceptionally hard schedule will put Maye's leadership to the test early, but he is equipped to deal with whatever is thrown his way.
