Reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Queen” Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom has been forced to withdraw from her scheduled title defense at The Inner Circle 28.
Phetjeeja was set to defend her crown against Greek striker Antonia Prifti on Friday, August 28, from Bangkok’s prestigious Lumpinee Stadium, streaming live via live.onefc.com.
However, a hand injury sustained during training camp has forced the Thai out of the contest, and the title fight has been removed from The Inner Circle 28 card.
View this post on InstagramThe news is a significant blow to what was shaping up to be one of the most anticipated women’s striking matchups of the year. Phetjeeja is regarded as one of the most dominant female strikers on the planet, carrying a staggering 210-6 career record and an 8-1 promotional tally into what would have been her second ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Title defense.
The 24-year-old Team Mehdi Zatout product had returned to the kickboxing division following a hard-fought and unsuccessful bid for two-sport glory against ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues, and the matchup with Prifti represented her opportunity to reestablish her dominance in the division she has ruled with authority.
Prifti, the 24-year-old Greek sensation with a 25-3 career record and former K-1 Women’s Flyweight Championship credentials, will now have to wait for her shot at the title she has been chasing alongside her promotional debut.
