Poll shows how Americans truly feel about Sophie Cunningham’s WNBA take on transgender athletes

In a clear signal of public sentiment, new polling shows that most Americans back WNBA star Sophie Cunningham’s stance on protecting women’s sports categories.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham sparked debate after stating she wants to “protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men”.

While denying animosity toward the transgender community, Cunningham stood firmly by her comments.

The controversy intensified when former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom claimed he would enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, sarcastically arguing that self-identification guidelines allowed his eligibility.

But it all comes down to a matter of opinion.

Giving the people a chance to voice their opinions on the matter, it resulted in a resounding result.

A poll from Pew Research found that 73% percent of Americans side with Sophie Cunningham that men who identify as women don’t belong in women’s sports.

Pew also found that 66% of Americans favor laws or policies requiring transgender athletes to compete on teams matching their sex assigned at birth.

Sophie Cunningham has been praised for her stance on the matter, but Golden State Valkyries star has a differing opinion, stating that she’s open to welcoming trans athletes.
