FC Bayern beat RB Leipzig 3-1 at Allianz Arena in the Telekom Cup with goals from Luis Diaz, Nathaniel Brown and Jamal Musiala. However, Vincent Kompany’s side faced an injury concern with Konrad Laimer having to leave the pitch inside the first ten minutes.
Shortly after, Diaz scored a trademark goal as he did in Bayern’s last friendly against Aston Villa in Hong Kong. The visitors started the second-half strongly, and Manuel Neuer was finally beaten by Brajan Gruda’s volleyed finish from Max Finkgräfe’s inviting delivery.
Brown put Bayern in front once again ten minutes before Vincent Kompany made six changes. The former Eintracht Frankfurt defender provided a clinical finish after Aleksandar Pavlović put him through in goal.
Fellow summer signing Saibari was one of those coming on as a substitute with twenty minutes left on the clock, and he assisted on his first Bayern appearance when Musiala sealed the win with a brilliant finish.
It was also the first post-World Cup appearance for Musiala. As for Leipzig, ex-Gladbach captain Rocco Reitz made his first appearance for his new club. Lutsharel Geertruida also played despite a potential return to the Eredivisie this summer. The game reunited former Manchester City teammates Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis.
Bayern will end their pre-season calendar with a game away at Heidenheim, who lost to Hertha BSC in 2. Bundesliga earlier on Saturday. RB Leipzig’s next game will be against Regionalliga side Eintracht Trier in the DFB-Pokal. Bayern’s season will start at Dortmund in the clash for the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
