QUEEN CITY, TX (KTAL/KMSS) – There's new leadership in Queen City. Kevin Reaves has brought in a championship caliber staff in hopes of bringing the community its first win since October 2022.
"It’s a fun thing to take over a program and people think its broken and its really not," Reaves said.
It’s not broken, but the Queen City athletic department is getting a face lift.
"First thing is the culture change. If we can get this culture rolling in the direction it needs to be rolling in to where they believe in our core values, relationship, growth, belief, and discipline, that is success to me," Reaves said.
Implementing that culture along with Reaves are others that also have championship experience both coaching and playing.
"We’re intense coaches. We’re a lot of fun, very family oriented, hold the kids accountable, at the same time we love them up and life them up, that’s all the coaches here," Reaves.
The pressure is on those coaches to end the 22-game losing streak.
"I don’t look at the sheet metal sign with the lightbulbs in it defining success for anyone. I’ve been on the great side of that sheet metal sign, and I’ve been on the bad side of that sheet metal sign, and I’m still the same person," Reaves said. "The community will be excited for one win, but I don’t look at it like that. I coach every year to go to the playoffs, so that’s the goal."
A young team, a new turf field, new coaches, the future is bright for the Bulldogs.
"We don’t have a lot of genetic freaks on this team. We don’t have a lot of speed, we have a little bit of power, some strength. Everything’s going to be new for everyone this year. The district, our kids, the district as well. So the offense and defense we’ll be implementing I believe we’ll be pretty balanced. Just going to have fun and let our kids play football," Reaves said.
