Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in a closely contested final in Salzburg.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for the Champions League holders in the 20th minute before Aston Villa youngster Brian Madjo equalised just before half-time.
Desire Doue restored PSG’s lead in the 62nd minute, with the goal surviving a VAR check for offside to seal back-to-back Super Cup triumphs for the French side.
Villa’s equaliser was particularly memorable as 17-year-old Madjo became the youngest scorer in the history of the competition. The England Under-17 international volleyed home John McGinn’s cross at the back post after previously missing two good opportunities.

He joined from Metz for £10m in January but was initially prevented from being registered following a FIFA ban. Villa won an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) earlier this month, clearing the way for his return.
Madjo continued to pose a physical threat to the PSG defence after scoring, while Villa also created further opportunities that forced goalkeeper Matvey Safonov into important saves.
However, PSG held on to claim the trophy for the second consecutive year after beating Tottenham on penalties in last season’s final.
For Villa boss Unai Emery, the defeat extended his difficult record in the competition, having now lost all four of his UEFA Super Cup finals with Sevilla, Villarreal and Villa.
The match also marked a milestone for referee Omar Artan, who became the first non-European official to take charge of the UEFA Super Cup.
