Afghanistan win by six wickets, win five-game series 4-0
Afghanistan captain Rahmat Shah hit 143 not-out at Stormont to help his side complete a one-day series win over Ireland.
While the first of the five-match series was washed out, the visitors swept the remainder to cement their dominance over Ireland.
The visitors had six wickets to spare in this final match, but surpassed their target with just seven balls to spare after a slow start to their chase.
Rahmat and a 98 by Sediq Atal would prove crucial as Afghanistan finished the series in style.
Afghanistan won the toss and opted to put Ireland into the bat.
The visitors made an early breakthrough with Andrew Balbirnie gone for 13 with Ireland team captain then out for 20 after hitting four boundaries as Azmatullah took the first two of his three wickets.
It was looking ominous for the hosts with AM Ghazanfar removing Cade Carmichael for 22 and Lorcan Tucker on seven, but Ireland would fins a groove with the bat through Harry Tector and Curtis Campher.
Tector would contribute 53 before being caught by Mohammad Saleem and Campher got into a flow with seven boundaries and four sixes, reaching 96 only for Rahmat to make the catch from Saleem's delivery.
In between, George Dockrell chipped in with 31 as Ireland set a target of 299.
The hosts put early pressure on Afghanistan as Liam McCarthy took the early wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz [14] and Ibrahim Zadran for five as the visitors hit just 30 runs in their opening 10 overs, but Rahmat and Sediq would take over.
Their partnership almost saw Afghanistan home until Sediq, two runs short of his century with seven fours and three sixes, was caught by Carmichael from McCarthy's delivery.
While Azmatullah chipped in with 24 before being removed by Jai Moondra, there was no answer to Rahmat whose 143 not out from 133 balls included 13 fours and a pair of sixes as Afghanistan won by six wickets with seven balls to spare.
