Reactions: “… quite a spectacle”

Lars Ricken: “It was quite a spectacle, especially in the first half. After eight minutes, you naturally thought: Against an Italian team, the game is basically over. We then fought our way back and actually dominated the game until the 75th minute. If we had won, it would have been well-deserved. With Arsenal and now Roma, we’ve faced two top European opponents, so we’re heading into the Super Cup against Bayern with a good feeling.”

Niko Kovac: “That was a great game for the fans. But we didn’t start the game well. In the first eight minutes, we weren’t even in the game—we lost focus twice—but we showed a great response after that. Coming back from a 0–2 deficit against an Italian team isn’t exactly easy. And especially in the second half, we squandered a few chances. We would have liked to win, but that doesn’t count in preseason. Things really get going starting next week.”

Ole Book: “We got off to a very poor start and had major problems finding our defensive shape. Of course, you have to take into account that we haven’t been at full strength for very long and that we’re still missing a few key defensive players. After that, we showed a lot of very good things, especially in our offensive play. Now we have another week of training, the Super Cup, and then the Bundesliga. I think we’ll be at our best by then at the latest.”

Filippo Mane: “Maybe things went a little better last week in London, but even so, we could see that we’re really training hard and are on the right track. We’re already at a pretty good level, even though some players are new. But they still bring a lot of energy and quality—both with and without the ball. We’re ready for next week. We just need to work a little on our defense, but other than that, I don’t see that many differences between last week and this one. As for me, I feel like I’m in much better physical shape. I was able to play 90 minutes twice in one week.”
