There was some hope that the Boston Red Sox would welcome back Trevor Story and Roman Anthony over the weekend against the San Francisco Giants, but that isn't going to happen.

The Red Sox could use all the help they can get in this race to win the American League East, currently 7.0 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays, with time not necessarily on their side.

However, Boston is in a very good spot to make the postseason via the Wild Card and might not be too worried about bringing guys back if they aren't fully healthy.

The Red Sox understand they need a cautious approach, though it sounds like both guys could potentially join them for their next series against the Miami Marlins, starting Monday night in Miami, for a three-game set.

“It’s hard to say, I think it’s going to be easier to answer based on how they feel coming out of these games,” Chad Tracy said, per the Boston Herald. “Now we’re getting to area where you’re playing longer and stretching them out a bit longer so we’ll see how they feel.”

While fans will want to see both players back at the same time, it seems possible we could see one or the other.

Regardless of how that plays out, the more promising sign is that it seems possible. The Red Sox are getting healthy at the right time, and that’s a scary sight for the rest of Major League Baseball.
