The Boston Red Sox have been the best team in Major League Baseball in the second half, and there's absolutely no debate about that. At the same time, there was a lot of frustration from fans of the organization this past weekend against the Athletics.
Losing to the Athletics, especially with all the injuries they've dealt with on both sides of the baseball, came as a bit of a surprise.
The Red Sox have been beating all the best teams in baseball, so losing to the worst roster in the league right now wasn't expected. At the same time, this is Major League Baseball, and while the Athletics haven't played well because of injuries, it's very difficult to win in this league. Expectations have to be slowed down just a bit.
"It's been a minute," Tracy said, per Ian Browne of MLB.com. "I think I said this comment when the [15-game] winning streak ended. I was like, 'We knew that was going to happen eventually,' and I think in this case, you probably knew this was going to happen eventually. You're not going to win every single series the rest of the year."
It's impossible for the Red Sox to continue playing at the level they were throughout that stretch. Still, this was an opportunity for the Red Sox to win a couple more games that they should have, so in that sense, it was a disappointing weekend.
Regardless, it's a nice time for them to bounce back this week, and all indications point to them doing just that, considering how they've played recently.
