Report: Buccaneers defensive end plans return to LSU football

LSU football could be working to add another player from an NFL roster to its 2026 roster. According to a report from The Advocate's Jon Blau, Jack Pyburn plans to return to LSU if he's not on an NFL roster on Sept. 1.

The news comes as LSU is attempting to sign several players who had brief stints on NFL rosters this Summer. Last week, ESPN reported that LSU had an agreement with former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright. Earlier this week, former Ole Miss defensive tackle Zxavian Harris committed to LSU.

The moves haven't come without controversy, as the SEC opposes players returning to college after stints in the NFL or NBA. The SEC passed a rule saying teams cannot add players who previously declared for the NFL, NBA, or WNBA draft.

Pyburn, Wright, and Harris are firmly fit that criteria. If they're going to take the field for the Tigers this fall, it will require a few more legal wins.

Pyburn began his career at Florida before transferring to LSU. Pyburn spent 2025 with the Tigers and was a productive defensive end in Blake Baker's defense. Pyburn's game is balanced, and he can stop the run and get after the passer. Pyburn is currently with the Tampa Bay Bucs, but it's unclear if he will make the roster.
