Milan and Porto have reportedly reached a ‘verbal agreement’ over Santiago Gimenez’s transfer to the Estadio do Dragao. According to Orazio Accomando, via MilanNews, the Mexican striker will join the Dragons on loan with an option to buy.
Gimenez joined Milan in January 2025 after two impressive years at Feyenoord. The Rossoneri paid the Dutch outfit roughly €32 million to sign the 25-year-old, hoping he would become a new attacking leader.
However, after a promising start, Gimenez fell out of favor at San Siro. Furthermore, recurring injuries significantly reduced his playing time last season, as he managed just 16 Serie A appearances.
Without a single league goal to his name, Gimenez found himself on the fringes upon Ruben Amorim’s arrival. Moreover, Milan have signed Goncalo Ramos in a record-breaking deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
Our take on Milan & GimenezGimenez’s Serie A stint has been far from memorable. He was a bit-part player in Massimiliano Allegri’s system, while Amorim’s appointment appears to have pushed him even further down the pecking order.
With Ramos expected to lead the line next season, Milan have little reason to keep the Mexican around, making a move to Porto a logical solution for all parties. It’s also worth noting that the player is open to leaving Milan, with Porto ready to offer him an escape route and a fresh start.
Porto will reportedly have a chance to purchase Gimenez permanently next summer for a figure close to €20m.
