Drew Allar had a preseason debut to remember for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday evening against the Green Bay Packers.

It was an impressive showing from the Steelers as they secured a comfortable 28-9 victory against Aaron Rodgers’ former team.

The 42-year-old veteran quarterback was not on display, but it did provide Mike McCarthy with the opportunity to give rookie Allar a run out.

Allar was selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, with the Steelers using their 76 overall pick on the Penn State Nittany Lions QB.

On his debut for the Steelers, Allar completed 10 of his 13 throws, totalling 154 passing yards on the night.

To say fans were impressed with the 22-year-old would be an understatement.

Having also recorded three total touchdowns during the game, excitement is growing over Allar and what his future could hold.

It must be remembered that Rodgers will remain the starting quarterback this season, but his retirement in the coming months will open the door for the likes of Allar.

‘You can tell Drew Allar is attending the Aaron Rodgers QB school,’ replied one fan on X.

One excited fan even said: ‘Drew Allar taking Aaron Rodgers spot by Week 4’.

The Steelers also have the experienced Mason Rudolph at their disposal, but Allar’s impressive start in preseason will do his chances under McCarthy no harm whatsoever.

Having seen Allar’s stats after the game, one fan said: ‘Hall of Fame numbers. Crown him.’

A fan from another team was even calling for Allar to become QB1 in Pittsburgh: ‘Drew Allar has three touchdowns in three drives. He needs to start Week 1 for the Steelers. Retire Aaron Rodgers!’

There was a more level-headed Steelers fan, though: ‘It is just preseason but I am hyped.’

The Steelers have two more preseason games against the New York Jets and then the Buffalo Bills before opening their season against the Atlanta Falcons.

‘Allar looks incredible in black and gold can’t lie,’ said another Steelers fan.

One fan was already admitting he may have been proven wrong about Allar: ‘Great pre-season debut. Man he might have shut me up’.
