The Rochester Red Wings faced a disappointing defeat on Tuesday night, allowing a four-run lead to slip away as they fell 8-6 to the Charlotte Knights at ESL Ballpark. The game turned dramatically in the seventh inning when Charlotte scored three runs, ultimately sealing the victory.
Rochester (67-46) had established a solid position, leading 6-3 after five innings and still holding a two-run advantage entering the seventh. However, the Knights capitalized on a shaky performance from reliever Jack Sinclair, who struggled to contain the Charlotte offense. The inning began with Michael Turner reaching base on a single, followed by Junior Perez drawing a walk. Tim Elko then delivered a crushing blow with a three-run homer to left field, flipping the score in favor of the Knights at 7-6.
This late-game collapse overshadowed what had been a promising start for the Red Wings. The first inning saw both teams exchange runs, with Charlotte taking an early lead thanks to Turner’s RBI single. Rochester quickly responded in the bottom of the inning; Seaver King doubled to start the frame and later stole home as part of a double steal with Phillip Glasser, leveling the score at 1-1.
The Red Wings' offense was bolstered by home runs from Maxwell Romero Jr. and Cayden Wallace. Romero's two-run shot in the second inning propelled Rochester ahead 3-2, while Wallace followed suit with a two-run homer in the fourth, extending their lead to 5-2. The Red Wings added to their tally in the fifth when Trey Lipscomb singled home Yohandy Morales, bringing the score to 6-3.
Despite Rochester's strong start, Charlotte began to chip away at the deficit, scoring single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Ryan Galanie drove in a run with an RBI single in the second, while Turner contributed an RBI groundout in the fifth. Andy Weber added another run for the Knights with an RBI single in the sixth, setting the stage for Elko's decisive homer.
Sinclair (4-2) was ultimately charged with the loss and a blown save, having allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in just one inning of work. On the other side, Charlotte's Peyton Pallette (3-1) earned the win, and Kelvyin Woods secured the save for the Knights.
For Rochester, both Romero and Wallace each drove in two runs, while Seaver King and Morales each recorded two hits in the game. The Red Wings will look to bounce back as they continue their series against the Knights on Wednesday at ESL Ballpark.
