Rocky Flintoff scores one hundred, and Bumble has already picked him for England

Rocky Flintoff, son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, scored a scintillating century against Somerset in their One-Day Cup fixture in Taunton. Somerset registered their fifth defeat in eight matches and did not qualify for the next stage, whereas Lancashire, who finished second, made their way through. 

Flintoff got together with Keaton Jennings after the fall of the third wicket, with the team score reading 138 at 22.3 overs. The duo added 214 runs for the fourth wicket before Jennings was dismissed for a 127-ball 156. Flintoff carried on, and was dismissed for a 76-ball 123 (he got to 100 in 65 deliveries), carrying the score past 400 runs. Somerset, on the other hand, were kept down to 269, with four-wicket hauls from Tom Aspinwall and George Balderson. It was his first List A hundred in 15 innings, with two more fifties. He has scored 473 runs at 39.41 so far. 

David Lloyd, who got the nickname ‘Bumble’, vouched for the youngster to be fast-tracked into England’s senior side. The England legend expressed his opinions via an interview on Track Radio, stating that Lancashire’s latest centurion had all the ingredients to be a successful international cricketer. 

“I just think he can actually be fast-tracked. He’s got everything. I think he’s an international cricketer. He’s very similar in his mannerisms to his dad, and certainly he has a short-arm jab, pull shot, and he’s about six foot five anyway; he’s a big lad,  and he can pull it away into the leg-side, very reminiscent of his father.”

“He’s a lovely lad, he’s got a good temperament. And I just think that it can actually be fast-tracked. When you look at a player, somebody’s got to make a judgement as to what standard they're going to be. And I think England have been pretty good in recent years in identifying talent and stretching and pushing them forward, and I think they can do that with Flintoff”, said Lloyd in the interview. 

The youngster is currently one of the most exciting prospects in the England cricketing circuit. Last month, Flintoff had a stellar series against South Africa U19, and was the second-highest run-scorer in the Youth ODI series with 163 runs in three innings. After helping England U19 clinch the ODI series 2-1, he also scored a 63 in the first innings of the first Youth Test in Beckenham. 

In the Youth ODI series against India in 2025, Flintoff scored a hundred and a fifty in the five-match series, after which he made a composed 93 in the first Test. Flintoff is known for his sturdy technique and the ability to keep batting relentlessly, which makes him a good option for the longer formats. 

Having said that, fast-tracking him into the England side immediately might not be the wisest decision to make. Flintoff is just 18 and will have to come up with consistent performances in the domestic circuit to strengthen his case for selection to the national side. He has limited experience as well, playing 20 professional games, with just one hundred.
