In an exciting development for rodeo fans, Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas, will host the inaugural Rodeo at the Racetrack event on November 6 and 7. The Rodeo at the Racetrack initiative is spearheaded by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), the leading organization for professional rodeo athletes. The event will feature a range of thrilling competitions, including bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. This diverse lineup promises to deliver an action-packed weekend for rodeo enthusiasts.
The concept for this event originated two years ago when co-founders of the Rodeo at the Racetrack series hosted a successful rodeo at Canterbury Park, a horse racing track located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. Encouraged by the positive response, they envisioned expanding this concept into a nationwide series. The Houston stop is one of the first major expansions of this initiative, with tickets having gone on sale last month.
Kip Rakos, CEO and co-founder of Rodeo at the Racetrack, expressed enthusiasm about bringing this event to Texas, stating, "Sam Houston Race Park is an outstanding venue with a rich history, and we’re excited to bring this experience to Texas while supporting the important work being done by Camp Hope." This local organization provides housing and support services for military veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and their families. The rodeo will not only entertain but also contribute to a worthy cause, with a gala event scheduled to kick off the weekend's festivities, featuring dinner, a silent auction, and live music.
The rodeo will run for two nights, with gates opening at 5 p.m. and the competition commencing at 7 p.m. In addition to the rodeo events, attendees can look forward to live music, vendors, a barbecue cook-off, and opportunities to meet rodeo contestants and take photos with Brutus, a renowned Brahman bull.
Ticket prices for the event start at $25 for general admission and increase for various levels of access, with options including $35 for indoor reserved seating, $100 for a premium rodeo experience with ringside seats, and $200 for VIP treatment. This pricing structure aims to make the event accessible to a wide audience while offering exclusive experiences for those looking to enhance their visit.
