Roger Goodell Says NFL Is Reviewing Whether 49ers Owner Jed York Will Be Punished as Arrest Video Surfaces

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is looking into the allegations against San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York after he was arrested in Ohio over the weekend.

“It’s being reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” Goodell said Wednesday, Aug. 26 at the owners’ meetings in Atlanta. “We’ll do that and when there’s something to be reported we’ll talk.”

Goodell’s comments come two days after York, 46, pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges following his arrest in East Palestine, Ohio. 

The NFL owner was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, before the charge was changed to disorderly conduct. His second charge is for possession of criminal tools.

York’s arrest was captured in bodycam footage obtained by TMZ and published on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

“Just driving,” York told authorities after he was pulled over. 

An officer asked York if he was meeting anyone, to which he responded, “No.” York was put into handcuffs and taken into a police cruiser.

York was accused of arranging to pay for sex in an Ohio trailer park before he was arrested, according to multiple reports.

According to court records obtained by ESPN, York filed for divorce from his wife Danielle in May.

The NFL has found owners responsible for violating its conduct policy in the past.

In 2014, the late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 after pleading guilty to driving while impaired.

In 2019, the NFL declined to punish New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft after he was arrested in Florida for allegedly paying for sex with a woman at a massage parlor. The charge was later dropped after a court ruled that authorities violated Kraft’s rights.
