Ross Stewart Faces Extended Absence Due to Quad Injury at Swansea City

Ross Stewart, the Scotland international and Swansea City striker, is expected to be sidelined for the next four matches due to a quad injury. This setback comes as Stewart has only managed to play a mere nine minutes of competitive football this season, raising concerns about his fitness and impact on the team.

Stewart missed Swansea's recent Championship victories over Watford and Derby County, both crucial matches that have helped the team secure a strong start to the season. The 30-year-old forward joined Swansea on a three-year contract last month but has only made one substitute appearance, which was in a goalless draw against Sheffield United 11 days ago.

As it stands, Stewart is likely to miss the upcoming home fixture against Wrexham this Saturday, as well as the away match against Southampton, his former club, scheduled for next Tuesday. Additionally, he will not participate in the subsequent fixtures against Burnley and Lincoln City before the international break at the end of the month.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos provided some insight into Stewart's condition, stating, "Ross had a soft tissue injury, not massive, but probably he can return in the international break." This news offers a glimmer of hope for both the player and the club, as they navigate through a busy schedule.

While Stewart's absence is a blow, there is some positive news regarding Swansea's captain, Ben Cabango. After suffering a heel problem during the match against Sheffield United, Cabango missed the subsequent games against Derby and Watford. However, Matos has indicated that the center-back may have a chance to return for the Wrexham match, although his immediate reinstatement to the starting lineup is not guaranteed given the team's current form.

Swansea City currently leads the Championship table, having accrued 10 points from their first four league games. The team has demonstrated a solid defensive performance, conceding only once during the season opener against Stoke City. This strong start positions them well as they aim for promotion, but the absence of key players like Stewart could complicate their efforts.

Looking ahead, the international break will be significant for both Stewart and the Swansea squad. During this time, Scotland will engage in Nations League matches against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia, which could provide Stewart with an opportunity to regain fitness and potentially rejoin the national team setup.
