Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Interested in Barcelona’s Héctor Fort

The signing of Ronald Arújo as a versatile veteran defender capable of playing at both his natural centre half position but also capable of filling in at right back for most seemed likely to rule out further defensive signings in what’s left of the summer transfer window.

Reports out of Spain today via Sport, though, claim that Barcelona’s 20-year-old right back Héctor Fort is on the radar for Liverpool—though the Spanish outlet are claiming everyone from Inter Milan to Fulham to Tottenham are interested in the youngster, so maybe that shouldn’t count for much.

Meanwhile, it’s Everton who are cast as the most likely club to actually sign Fort, who has spent the past decade rising through the ranks at Barcelona’s academy, has 24 senior first team appearances—with 20 coming in 2024-25 year—and spent last season on loan at Elche.

Going back a couple of seasons, Fort was widely seen as the future at right back for the Catalan giants, but of late that consensus has shifted to seeing fellow prospect Xavi Espart as the more likely long-term answer and that has led to Fort reportedly becoming available on the transfer market.
