After lashing out 18 runs over two victories at Columbus, St. Paul managed just one tally Friday in a 5-1 loss to the Clippers.
The Saints mustered up just five hits, with its lone run coming on a seventh-inning home run by Tristan Gray — his third of the season — after the hosts had already posted more than enough scoring to secure the victory.
Gray was the lone St. Paul batter to record more than one hit, going 2 for 4 and driving in himself with the team’s lone RBI.
Saints starter Kendry Rojas was forced from the game after suffering an apparent injury on a pitch to his first batter of the second inning. Aaron Rozek (3-3, 3.94 ERA) took over on the mound and was charged with the loss after allowing four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters.
St. Paul and Columbus are scheduled to meet in the fifth game of their six-game series at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. The Saints are slated to send Germán Márquez (1-1, 3.32) to the mound against Clippers starter Rorik Maltrud (5-1, 3.83).
