Seahawks QB Jalen Milroe a second-year player to watch in preseason

Is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe a player to have eyes on throughout upcoming three-game preseason slate?

Milroe may be the Seahawks’ QB3 for next season behind starter Sam Darnold and backup QB Drew Lock, but his potential as a dual-threat quarterback was seen last season as a rookie, and more may be put on display with the time that he’s given in the three games prior to the start of the regular season.

Pro Football Focus’ Daire Carragher listed Milroe as being one of the marquee second-year players to watch in the preseason this year.

“The dual-threat quarterback left something to be desired last preseason, posting a 42.8 PFF passing grade without recording a single big-time throw despite an aggressive 10.1-yard average depth of target,” Carragher said. “He also held onto the ball for an average of 3.3 seconds… Milroe should look to Malik Willis as a blueprint for how his career could develop. Willis has now earned a starting opportunity in Miami after spending several years proving himself as one of the league’s most reliable backup quarterbacks.“

Milroe showed his capabilities as a dual-threat quarterback last season. The 23-year-old will get the chance to put more of his game together with with the playing time that he’s given in the preseason this year. He has the skills and talent to potentially overtake Lock in the pecking order in Seattle. But ultimately, he will need to prove it on the field.
