Sean McVay 'would love' to have Aaron Donald's decision sooner than later

Aaron Donald has been flirting with a return since the start of June, when the Los Angeles Ramsacquired Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade. He’s been working out and training for the last two and a half months, but it doesn’t seem a decision is on the horizon.

Sean McVay has repeatedly said that Donald doesn’t owe the Rams anything and he’s “earned the right” to take his time, but even McVay would like to have some answers soon. He said after Thursday’s practice that he thinks Donald will have more official workouts with the Rams before making his decision, “and then we’ll see.”

“I think so, yeah, and then we'll see,” McVay said. “Like I said, I would love to be able to have all this stuff figured out, but like I told you guys from the beginning, he's earned the right. I know he's feeling good and I think he will continue to work out. I'm hopeful that we'll have some answers on that sooner than later for you guys.”

Donald had his second official workout with the Rams on Sunday, putting on at least a helmet and going through some on-field work with the team. He’s also training on his own in anticipation for a potential return, but these official workouts reported to the league seem to suggest he’s strongly considering coming back.

There’s no real deadline for Donald to make a decision. He doesn’t have to commit before the regular season begins, but he does have to decide before Week 14, which is the deadline for players to come off the reserve/retired list – which Donald is still on.

For now, everyone – including McVay – will be anxiously awaiting Donald’s decision.
