The Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees approved conceptual renderings for proposed renovations and additions to Southern Miss baseball's Pete Taylor Park on Thursday, Aug. 20.
The approval by the IHL Board of Trustees allows the University of Southern Mississippi to present the designs to prospective donors and the general public as it works to raise money for the renovation project.
The renderings show a proposed new entrance into Pete Taylor Park, expanded seating along the third-base line and additional facilities in the outfield area. The scope of the project will be determined at a later date.
The designs are conceptual and the approval will help the university in its fundraising efforts. The University of Southern Miss Athletic Foundation is working with Weir Boerner Allin Architecture, PLLC, as its design professional but has not selected a general contractor.
The IHL Board of Trustees approved the renderings unanimously. In the same meeting, they also approved a naming rights agreement between the University of Southern Mississippi and Renasant Bank, officially changing the name of Southern Miss' football stadium from M.M. Roberts Stadium to Renasant Stadium. Davis Wilson covers Southern Miss athletics and Hattiesburg news for the Hattiesburg American.
