Road and trail runs in several different areas will be held in the coming weeks.
The Coos Coho Run, an event hosted by the Coos Watershed Association, is Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Millicoma Marsh Trail in the Eastside district of Coos Bay.
The event, dubbed “Race to Restore!,” is a fundraiser for improving salmon habitats on the South Coast.
It starts at 9 a.m. and includes both a 5-kilometer run and a 2-kilometer walk on the scenic trail. The entry fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children and the first 20 children to sign up race for free.

Check-in and bib pick-up goes from 8 to 9 a.m. and the race starts at 9. An awards ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. and the race is followed by a project to remove invasive species from the trail area from noon to 2 p.m.

SUNSET BAY TRAIL RUN: The annual South Coast Running Club event begins and ends at Sunset Bay State Park on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Events include a half-marathon that starts at 8:45 a.m., a half-mile kids fun run on the beach that begins at 9:15 a.m. and 15-kilometer and 4-mile races that begin at 9:30 a.m.
The 4-mile, 15K and half marathon races include trails linking Sunset Bay and Shore Acres state parks, with the longer two races also including a trip through Cape Arago State Park.
The entry fee for people who sign up early is $15 for members of the South Coast Running Club and $25 for non-members. The fee increases by $5 on race day. The fee for all students is $5.

POWERS LOGGER’S RUN: The 5-kilometer race is Saturday, Sept. 12 and benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The race starts at 9 a.m., with raceday registration starting at 7:30 a.m. People need to sign up by Aug. 28 to get a race T-shirt.

PREFONTAINE MEMORIAL RUN: The annual run honoring Steve Prefontaine is Sept. 19 in Coos Bay. Events include a high school 5-kilomter run that starts at 9:45 a.m. and a 10-kilometer run and 2-mile fun run/walk that begin at 10: 05 a.m. All races start at the corner of Fourth Street and Anderson Avenue in downtown Coos Bay and end on the track at Marshfield High School.
This is the 45th edition of the race. Participants can register until midnight on Sept. 15 at www.prefontainerun.net or sign up in person from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 18 and 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 19 at the St. Monica Catholic Church hall, 357 South 6th St. in Coos Bay.
The entry fee for the 10K and 2-mile races is $45 through Sept. 5 and increases to $55 thereafter. For runners 18 and younger, the fee is $25 through Sept. 5 and $35 thereafter. Racers receive a race T-shirt and finishers receive a commemorative medal.
The top three male and female finishers in the 10-kilometer race win prize money ($500 for first place, $300 for second and $200 for third).
