Shane Beamer has done some amazing things in Columbia, S.C.
He has brought in the best recruiting classes since Steve Spurrier. Beamer also got the Gamecocks to nine wins and a trip to the Citrus Bowl after the 2024 season. But these nine wins represent just the second winning regular season during his tenure.
In Beamer’s first season at the helm, he got South Carolina to a 6-6 record and got a seventh win in the Duke’s mayo Bowl. He followed this by getting to the Gator Bowl and finishing 8-5 after the bowl game loss to Notre Dame.
The 2024 nine-win season was sandwiched in 2023 by five wins and last season by a 4-8 record with LaNorris Sellers missing time due to injuries. The absence of the QB made life difficult, and Beamer hopes that by retaining him for his senior season, he can reignite the magic of 2024. If speedy WR Nicholas Harper can make a jump in production, this will provide much-needed help for Sellers. He will be forced to run less and help to protect his injured ankle. Something which is a major part of his skill as a QB.

This could be an arduous process as South Carolina is already dealing with injuries on the offensive line. Both tackle starters, Josiah Thompson on the left and Jacarrius Peak on the right. This will not help Sellers as he looks to rebound, and it will not help the Gamecocks' offense get out of the doldrums it found itself in last season. Virginia Tech was interested in Beamer to bring the luster back to Blacksburg. He did not want to take the job, knowing he would be compared to his father.

Something which is not fair to either of them. Instead, Beamer is sticking it out in Columbia and hoping he can get South Carolina back on track after the worst season South Carolina has had under Beamer with just four victories. If Beamer can not get the Gamecocks back to a bowl game and more, this is likely to be his last season with the team.
If he can get them back to eight or nine wins, he will garner a potential contract extension because, well, that is just what these schools do to spend money.
