On Thursday, the University of Wisconsin Badgers' head coach, Mike Hastings, announced that San Jose Sharks great Joe Pavelski will be joining their coaching staff for the coming season.
Pavelski, 42, was in the middle of a number of rumors this offseason and was even linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs head coaching job before they opted to hire former Los Angeles Kings bench boss Jim Hiller back in June. Instead, he'll be staying in his home state of Wisconsin to serve as the Badgers' Director of Player Development for the 2026-27 season.
Pavelski had previously served as the head coach of the Madison Capitols' 15U AAA team and an assistant coach for their 14U team as his son Nate Pavelski was on both teams. Pavelski won't be the only member of the Madison Capitols' coaching staff making the jump to the University of Wisconsin though, as former head coach of the USHL team, Andy Brandt was named an assistant coach on Hastings' staff.
