The Cleveland Browns have yet to announce their QB1, and it doesn't feel like it's going to happen anytime in the immediate future.
Obviously, the Browns will have to make a decision over the next month or so, but in terms of the next day or two, we're probably going to have to wait to get our answer between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.
All indications out of training camp have suggested that Sanders has struggled a good bit. He isn't throwing the football as well as many were hoping for him to coming out of Colorado, but it doesn't sound like Watson has been much better by any means.
It's also very early in training camp, so there's reason to believe that Cleveland genuinely has no idea what it wants to do. However, according to the latest report, there's a sense that Watson is currently the favorite to win the job.
“It certainly seems like Deshaun Watson has the leg up here. He’s the one who is more well-versed in the Browns’ operations,” Rapoport said on Inside Training Camp Live on Sunday, H/T Heavy.
“Shedeur has flashed in camp; he has made some plays that make them go, ‘OK, this guy’s got some talent.’ But just as far as dependability and play-in-play-out, it feels to me like Watson,” Rapoport said.
Watson simply has more experience in the NFL, and while he's struggled with the Browns, it's not the craziest thing to say that Cleveland will go with the experience in a situation like this.
However, it's still pretty early in a quarterback race, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see both of them continue to battle it out over the next few weeks, even if that means a couple of snaps here and there during a preseason game.
