Simon Wood: We’re in a good place

Simon Wood was proud of the commitment and effort he saw from his side, who continued their fine start to the season with an important FA WNL Cup win over Halifax Women.

Amy Woodruff continued her impressive run of scoring by netting twice in the first half, but two wasn’t enough as the Whites were pegged back by the hosts, before Chloe Dixon scored a second half stunner to seal three points in this Group T encounter.

Speaking after the match, the manager gave his thoughts, praising his side for their efforts.

“Having a cup game so early in the league campaign, you're trying to find a balance around players that maybe haven't played as many minutes yet, and trying to make sure the whole squad gets a run-out,” Wood explained.

“The result shows the pride and the passion in this group. You saw it at the end there, and the final 10 minutes, I thought, our pressing and our work rate to go and win the ball up high was superb.

“So I think it just goes to show, with this group of players, whether it's on a training night or whether it's playing in a League Cup game on a Thursday night against Halifax, or whether it's a league game against Chorley on Sunday, they just give everything for the badge.

“And I think that makes me extremely proud of them as a group, we're feeling good at the moment.

“We're in a good place at the minute. We're going out and we're performing well in games of football, and that's given us the opportunity to get wins and to get goals.”
