South Africa has officially announced its squad for the upcoming tour of Namibia, where they will compete in a tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe, as well as a three-match One Day International (ODI) series. The Twenty20 matches are scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 6 at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
Leading the South African side will be spinner Bjorn Fortuin, who has been appointed as captain for this series. The selection reflects a strategic focus on nurturing younger talent, as several players have received their first call-ups, including all-rounders Duan Jansen and Eathan Bosch. Jansen is notably the twin brother of Test bowler Marco Jansen, while Bosch’s elder brother Corbin has represented South Africa across all formats.
Coach Shukri Conrad emphasized the importance of providing younger players with international experience, particularly in light of a demanding schedule that includes tours to Australia, Bangladesh, and England later this year. This approach allows the team to rest some of its more seasoned players, ensuring a balance between experience and fresh talent.
In addition to Jansen and Bosch, batters Connor Esterhuizen and Jordan Hermann, along with seamer Nqobani Mokoena, have also received their first ODI call-ups. Conrad expressed confidence in the squad's composition, stating, “We’ve selected one squad for both series as we feel we have all departments well covered and it provides a great opportunity for players to build on their international caps.”
The selected squad includes a mix of established players and newcomers, highlighting South Africa's commitment to building a strong future in cricket. The full squad for the tour is as follows: Bjorn Fortuin (captain, Lions), Eathan Bosch, Dewald Brevis (both Titans), Tony de Zorzi (Western Province), Connor Esterhuizen (Lions), Jordan Hermann (Warriors), Rubin Hermann (North West Dragons), Duan Jansen (Titans), Kwena Maphaka (Lions), Nqobani Mokoena (Dolphins), Nqaba Peter (Lions), Lhuan-dré Pretorius (Titans), Lutho Sipamla (Lions), Jason Smith, and Prenelan Subrayen (both Dolphins).
This tour serves as an important opportunity for the South African team to not only gain valuable experience but also to build camaraderie and cohesion among the players as they prepare for more challenging fixtures ahead. The matches against Namibia and Zimbabwe will be closely watched as fans look forward to seeing how the new squad members adapt to the international stage.
