It's nothing short of bad news when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers and contract talks with Joey Porter Jr.
According to insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers and Porter are reportedly not close to a potential extension as the 2026 regular season fast approaches.
“They saw nothing of this guy in the spring. They’re not gonna see anything of him in the preseason, so I don’t know what he’s going to do,” Dulac said via the 102.5 WDVE Pregame Show. “That’s not to even mention his contract difficulties. They’re talking to him, but they’re nowhere near signing Joey Porter Jr. … Is he going to go into the season without a contract? Which, you would think he would have been the first guy they would try to re-sign. … To me, the biggest loser in training camp right now is that whole situation with JPJ.”
To make matters worse, Porter has been linked to trade rumors following a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, which claimed multiple NFL teams were wondering if the Steelers were interested in dealing their star cornerback.
The Steelers backed themselves into corner by waiting this long to extend Porter, as the market exploded after several NFL cornerbacks signed massive extensions surpassing the $30 million range.
