Steelers get brutal Joey Porter Jr. contract update after record-setting NFL deal

As if it wasn't complicated enough, extending Joey Porter Jr. just became an even more challenging task for the Pittsburgh Steelers, all thanks to Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

On Saturday, the NFL saw the cornerback market explode once again, as the Seahawks signed Witherspoon to a record-setting four-year, $132 million contract extension. His deal includes $101 million guaranteed and an average annual salary of $33 million, making him the highest-paid cornerback in league history.

Before Witherspoon's extension, Porter was a favorite to reset the cornerback market. Even if Porter doesn't eclipse the $33 million mark, he won't be far off that number. And that's bad news for the Steelers, who have been handing out huge extensions left and right to members of their 2023 NFL Draft class.

Porter, who was selected by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has steadily emerged as one of the league's premier lockdown cornerbacks. Yes, the lack of interceptions, one of Porter's biggest red flags, is slightly concerning. But it hardly matters when he's completely removing an opposing team's top receiver.
