Steelers legend James Harrison gives honest advice for Joey Porter Jr.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are just under a month to the start of the regular season and starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr. remains on the PUP list and has not practiced with the team. This just happens to coincide with Porter Jr. wanting a contract extension. Are the two things related? We can't say for sure but needless to say, we don't know how this is going to work out and it's hard to say if or when Porter Jr. join his team.

Former Steeler James Harrison talked about the Porter Jr. situation on his podcast and he made it clear that if he were Porter Jr. there's no way he's practicing or playing without that long-term contract.

“Right now if I’m him, it ain’t no way on God’s green earth you’re gonna get me to practice one snap, let alone play in a game before you give me a long-term contract," Harrison said. "I’m not gonna go out there and take a chance popping something, tearing something. Because if I do, you’re damn sure not gonna give the man a contract then. I bet you his daddy ain’t tell him nothing about stepping on that field.”

Porter Jr. has sat back this offseason and watched multiple teammates sign contract extensions while he's been left out. We don't know why the two sides are still negotiating and haven't come to an agreement but as the regular season approaches, the window to negotiate is closing.
