The Pittsburgh Steelers may have a big problem on their hands, and it reared its ugly head during the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers: Troy Fautanu's move to left tackle.
Between giving up a sack, a handful of pressures, a false-start penalty, and an ugly holding call that took a touchdown off the board, Fautanu's preseason performance was terrible.
It's easy to pull an Aaron Rodgers and downplay the preseason as "not real football," but every snap should be under a microscope when you're playing a new position, as Fautanu is.
What makes this performance an even harder pill to swallow is that Dylan Cook shined at left tackle to close out the 2025 season, as did Fautanu on the right side. We warned that Mike McCarthy could be falling into the classic Mike Tomlin trap by switching their sides, and that's exactly the situation staring the Steelers in the face.
Here’s to hoping Fautanu can find a way to bounce back over the next several weeks, because it’s going to be a long season for Rodgers if the Steelers can’t figure out how to protect his blind side.
