Roster cutdown day is almost upon us, and one insider predicts the Pittsburgh Steelers could do the unthinkable: keep four quarterbacks on their 53-man squad.
In a new 53-man roster prediction, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly projected that Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Drew Allar would all make the team following Sunday's cutdown deadline.
"McCarthy said, half-jokingly the other day, that he would keep six quarterbacks on the roster if he could," Kaboly wrote via X. "He’ll have to settle for four, and like it (actually, he loves it), and it had nothing to do with Will Howard’s two-touchdown, one-interception performance against the Bills. Despite popular belief, the Steelers always planned to keep Howard and Allar on the 53-man roster. Rudolph’s offseason and Week 1 preseason performance against the Packers forced the Steelers to keep four for the first time since 1995. Yet, it’s still somewhat of a surprise that McCarthy will keep four on the roster, considering he has kept two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster as many times as he’s kept three over his 18 years as a head coach."
Rodgers is an obvious lock to make the roster, as was Allar given that the Steelers used a third-round pick on him in this past April's draft, but the futures of Howard and Rudolph were less certain.
Howard finished the preseason with an underwhelming two-touchdown-to-three-interception ratio, while also completing 63.3% of his passes for 143 yards.
Rudolph only appeared in one preseason game but looked solid, completing 90% of his passes for 93 yards with zero interceptions.
If Kaboly's prediction proves true, don't expect to see any quarterback news on cutdown day. But that doesn't mean their 2026 futures are guaranteed, as the Steelers could still move one ahead of the trade deadline if a potential suitor emerges.
