GLENCOE — In a concerning incident during a high school football game on Friday, September 4, Lucas Beard, a player for the Susan Moore Bulldogs, was taken away in a medical helicopter after suffering an injury on the field against the Glencoe Yellow Jackets.
The injury occurred as the first half concluded, with Beard going down following the final play. Immediate attention was provided by trainers from both teams, as well as emergency medical technicians present at the game. Despite the quick response, Beard remained on the field for approximately 30 minutes while medical personnel assessed his condition and prepared for transport.
Witnesses noted that a medical assistant was seen stabilizing Beard's neck shortly after he fell. Once an ambulance arrived, Beard was transported to a nearby hospital. Initially directed to Children’s Hospital, the medical helicopter was rerouted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital.
