The list of first-time candidates for the 2027 Pro Football Hall of Fame has been released, but not everyone is in favour of the players named.
Rob Gronkowski, Richard Sherman and Adrian Peterson are almost certainly going to receive a gold jacket at some point.
There are a number of other players such as Cam Newton and Andrew Whitworth who are also eligible to enter the Hall of Fame next year.
However, former running back LeSean McCoy has been left baffled by the decision to make former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger eligible to receive a spot in Canton.
Roethlisberger played his final season in 2021 having racked up over 64,000 passing yards and 418 touchdowns.
Yet McCoy does not believe that Roethlisberger actually showed enough to earn a spot in the Hall of Fame.

McCoy ended his career with two Super Bowl wins, but he barely featured in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2020 season.
Despite this, he has taken the opportunity to go after Roethlisberger after his Hall of Fame eligibility announcement.
“You should never be in the Hall of Fame if you never had no All-Pros. Think of how that sounds! All-Pro, for the guys that don’t play football… All-Pro is the best in the league. You feel me?” he said on the Speakeasy podcast.
“But I’m being serious, how the h-ll he not have All-Pro? So take him off… For me, I can’t push your Hall of Fame with the best players of all time if you never had an All-Pro. Think about that though. That mean you never was the best quarterback or never was the best player in your position ever.”
Although Roethlisberger may not have been named as an All-Pro during his career, he did lead the Steelers to three Super Bowls and came out victorious in two of them.
Roethlisberger was also named the Offensive Rookie of the Year back in 2004, which highlights the impact he had on the league after winning 13 games in his first-ever season.
Newton was named an All-Pro in 2015, but he did not have half the career that Roethlisberger enjoyed.
The former Carolina Panthers quarterback may have won the MVP award in 2015, but he ultimately did not win a single Super Bowl.
Whether Roethlisberger should be named in the Hall of Fame next year is an entirely different question, but to suggest he shouldn’t be up for contention because he was never named an All-Pro feels like a stretch given what else he achieved.
