Tennessee Volunteers linebacker Arion Carter's suspension has been reduced from two games to one by the NCAA, according to Adam Sparks of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Carter is still set to miss Tennessee's season-opener against the Furman Paladins on Saturday, Sept. 5, but will be available for their Week 2 showdown with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta. He was suspended for two games back in July after his agent paid for a $427 flight to meet with an NFL team.
At the time, he was planning on entering the 2026 NFL Draft, but he changed his mind and ended up returning to Tennessee for his senior season. Despite repaying his agent, the NCAA still suspended him for the first two games of the season for the infraction, before reducing it to one.
Carter is coming off the most productive season of his career and is set to be one of the top linebackers in the SEC. Despite being limited to 10 games, he finished the 2025 season with a career-high 76 tackles to go with 6.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble. The Smyrna, Tennessee native was named to the All-SEC Second Team.
Tennessee is set to play Furman in Neyland Stadium in Week 1. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
