Tennessee Titans starting quarterback Cam Ward knows his unit hasn’t played perfect football, but he isn’t hitting the panic button after Sunday’s preseason victory.
The Titans rallied from an early 13-point deficit to defeat the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks 19-16 at Nissan Stadium. While the comeback win energized the home crowd, Ward and the starting offense left plenty of meat on the bone during their three series on the field.
Following the game, Ward spoke with Megan Olivi to assess his performance and discuss his developing chemistry with rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate.

“Better for sure, still a lot of little things we got to get better on from myself, from the offense,” Ward said. “But we trending in the right direction. It’s been a great training camp. Going against the Superbowl champs. They’re a very good team.”

Ward finished his night completing 8 of 12 passes for 69 yards, failing to record a touchdown or an interception. Tennessee’s offense struggled to consistently move the chains and trailed 16-3 when the coaching staff pulled the starters in the second quarter. However, four field goals from veteran kicker Joey Slye, including a massive 55-yarder, kept the Titans within striking distance before running back D’Ernest Johnson punched in a 2-yard touchdown with 5:45 remaining to seal the win.
Despite the sluggish early returns, Ward clearly remains confident in the foundation they are building. A massive part of that foundation relies on Tate, whom the Titans selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Tate dominated early in training camp with highlight-reel catches but has yet to record a reception through two preseason games.
Ward’s honest self-assessment shows a young quarterback fully aware of the work ahead. As Tennessee wraps up its preseason schedule against the Chicago Bears, Ward and Tate must translate their practice field chemistry into live-game production before Week 1 arrives.
