The Tallahassee-Leon Babe Ruth 14U All-Stars came up short in their bid to repeat as World Series champions, but not before delivering another memorable run on the national stage.
Leading the way was first baseman Robert Quinn, who turned in one of the tournament's most impressive performances. Quinn blasted two grand slams Saturday, Aug. 15, powering TLBR to a 14-1 victory over Pennsylvania and securing a third-place finish at the Babe Ruth 14U World Series in Eagle Pass, Texas.
TLBR entered the eight-team championship bracket as the tournament's No. 1 seed but suffered an 8-6 extra-inning loss to California in Friday's semifinal round.
The All-Stars finished the World Series with a 6-1 record and closed their postseason journey at 14-1 overall, including state, regional and World Series play.
Quinn's production in Eagle Pass was extraordinary. The left-handed slugger went 12-for-23 with three doubles, two triples, three home runs and 23 RBIs during the tournament.
In Friday's semifinal defeat, Preston Cooksey earned Player of the Game honors after hitting a game-tying double in the bottom of the seventh. Parker Pennington was excellent in relief, throwing four shutout innings.
In Saturday's game, Cooksey had an outstanding pitching performance as he went five innings and surrendered one run.
TLBR scored 95 runs in the tourney.
Host Eagle Pass beat California 9-8 on Saturday to win the championship.
