Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson is ramping up his training ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, and on Friday, took part in the "Ray Emery Cup" tournament with several NHLers, including Connor McDavid.
The Ray Emery Cup, named after the late netminder who trained at Paragenix, has become an annual tradition, where players who train with Matt Nichol and Paragenix in the offseason face off against players who work with Gary Roberts. This helps players practice in game-like situations, and ultimately, helps further prepare them for the upcoming season.
Captaining his own team, Wilson, along with the likes of Christian Kyrou, younger brother of new Capitals forward Jordan, Matt Poitras Steven Halliday and more NHLers and rising prospects training with Matt Nichol and Paragenix this summer, faced off against Connor McDavid, Shane Wright, Zach Hyman, Jordan Binnington and more who train with Gary Roberts.
The event also included an alumni game with several former NHLers, including former Washington forward Brett Connolly.
Wilson was among the goal scorers as he helped his team to the title, which includes a trophy and bragging rights.
The 32-year-old winger is coming off his second consecutive 30-goal season and is looking to continue to play a major role for a revamped Capitals team this coming year.
Players are expected to wrap up training back in Canada soon and start to filter back into D.C. to take part in informal skates, which are currently ongoing at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, ahead of the start of training camp in late September.
