The Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 3-1 on Friday, a needed win as their season continues to flounder a bit. However, they seem to have paid a price for it.
Vlad Guerrero Jr. is a huge star and a key piece for the Blue Jays. In 2025, Guerrero and the Jays were just one win away from a legendary World Series win.
This season hasn’t been near as good, though. And another setback could be on the cards. During the sixth innings against the Yankees, Guerrero went off injured following an unfortunate knee to the head.

He managed to get the crucial score for his team, but it seems the hit really affected him.
Speaking after the game, Blue Jays manager John Schneider provided an update on the first baseman’s situation and the idea behind taking him out of the game.
“Checking him out,” Schneider told reporters after the game. “He got hit pretty good with the knee from Lombard in the head, so they’re checking him out.
“He had a little bit of a headache. Just took him out, kind of precautionary right now. We’ll see how he is tomorrow.
“(He’ll undergo) full concussion testing and things like that. You’ve always got to be a little bit careful and we’ll see how he wakes up tomorrow and go from there.”
Guerrero is having a bit of a cold 2026 by his standards so far. The Blue Jays will have been hoping a late surge from him could help turn the season around. Hopefully, the Dominican-Canadian star is okay.
