Bill Simmons has reacted to Tottenham’s miserable start to the 2026/27 Premier League season, admitting his return to supporting Spurs has already taken a painful turn.
Tottenham were thrashed 3-0 by Brentford on Saturday, matching their heaviest-ever defeat on the opening day of a Premier League campaign.
Simmons had only recently decided to start supporting Tottenham again after previously walking away from the club. He explained that a Spurs-supporting friend convinced him to return for the new season.

‘Tottenham are in tatters’ – this has been a tough comeback for me today,’ he wrote.
The result will have done little to calm concerns around Roberto De Zerbi’s side after Brentford dominated large parts of the contest.
Keane Lewis-Potter opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Vitaly Janelt doubled Brentford’s advantage before half-time. Michael Kayode then added a third just four minutes after the restart.
Tottenham were given a chance to reduce the deficit when Brentford conceded a penalty, but Igor Thiago struck the woodwork.
Spurs struggled to create much after that, with Mikey Moore having a couple of half-chances, but Brentford comfortably saw out the game.
The defeat means Tottenham have now matched the club’s worst-ever Premier League opening-day result, a 3-0 loss to Manchester United in August 2011.
That makes Simmons’ reaction particularly unfortunate given his decision to return to the club.
Tottenham had also spent heavily during the summer in an attempt to move away from the problems of the previous two campaigns. Spurs finished 17th in both 2024/25 and 2025/26, just one place above relegation.
Now De Zerbi must quickly find a response. Tottenham’s next fixture is against Newcastle, giving the manager an immediate opportunity to change the mood around the club.
