Travis Kelce can’t stress the importance of OC Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce discussed the importance of the returning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

The Chiefs had Bieniemy on their coaching staff from 2013 to 2022, with Bieniemy spending his last four seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator before leaving as a two-time Super Bowl champion.

He returns this season after four years at different stops, hoping to recapture the magic he had with the Chiefs, and longtime tight end Kelce is overjoyed to have Bieniemy back on the touchline.

Travis Kelce highlights what the Chiefs missed in Eric Bieniemy’s absence

Kelce spoke to the media after training camp on Wednesday, discussing the return of OC Bieniemy to the franchise and how the Chiefs needed his brand of energy and accountability back in the locker room.

“The intensity is infectious. It makes you want to scream ‘m——-’ at everybody doing the wrong thing. I love that s—. I don’t think there’s enough of that in this world, let alone in this building.”

“I think EB is one of those guys whose accountability is going to piss you off, but if you act the right way and respond to it the right way, it’s gonna make the team better. We really missed that here in Kansas City.”

Bieniemy is coming off the heels of a personal tragedy after his son reportedly shot his wife in a domestic incident in July, but the OC is back at camp with his wife recovering from her injuries.

The Chiefs will hope that a successful season is in the works with Bieniemy back as OC, who will have to overcome very real personal distractions to stay focused.

Bieniemy served as the assistant head coach and OC for the Washington Commanders and UCLA football after leaving the Chiefs, with those unsuccessful stints sending him to the Chicago Bears to be their running backs coach.

However, the Chiefs brought him back to the franchise after Matt Nagy left KC to join the New York Giants.

With Kelce being one of Bieniemy’s old offensive stars and Patrick Mahomes pushing to return for Week 1, the Chiefs can be cautiously optimistic about how Bieniemy’s return can boost the team next season.
