Trevon Diggs signing with Seahawks might signal Terrion Arnold’s agreement is in jeopardy

The NFL saw a familiar face return to play after the Seattle Seahawks signed Trevon Diggs. The move gives Seattle stronger depth in its cornerback room while adding an opportunistic ballhawk to the secondary.

However, the bigger consequence could involve Terrion Arnold, who remains unsigned by the team. Previous reports indicated that Arnold was expected to sign with the defending champions, but that apparently has been put on hold.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald indicated that the team is still reviewing how to navigate the timing. After all, Arnold’s felony charges do not appear to be getting a quick resolution.

“We also understand that it’s a serious situation with a legal matter. There’s a process behind it, so we respect that. That’s how we’ll operate, just letting that process play out and let the league decide if and when his return to play is,” Macdonald said.

“We’ll understand that that’s at play, but there’s also an opportunity to bring him and give him an opportunity to earn a position here. We’re working through that on when’s the best time for him to come in, but we have an agreement with him, and we’ll see … I really don’t know how we’re going to do it.”

Why Diggs’ signing means trouble for Arnold’s agreement

Diggs’ signing could indicate that Arnold’s situation is more difficult for Seattle to navigate than the team initially anticipated. Rather than immediately moving forward with Arnold, the Seahawks now have the luxury of adding an established veteran while they wait for more clarity surrounding the legal situation.

At best, Diggs’ arrival could delay Seattle turning its agreement with Arnold into an official signing. The Seahawks can afford to be patient with their young cornerback while adding another proven option to the secondary.

At worst, Arnold’s legal situation could keep him from playing football in 2026. The Seahawks have to consider the potential consequences of committing to a player facing eight serious felony charges, particularly with the NFL’s own disciplinary process still looming.

Seattle also has to protect itself from making a decision before it understands all of the facts. Diggs gives the Seahawks an immediate alternative while the organization evaluates every possible outcome.

That makes Arnold’s path to Seattle considerably less certain. The agreement may still ultimately become a contract, but Diggs’ signing gives the Seahawks more reason to wait before taking that final step.
